Jan Gehl has just finished a study after revisiting the City of Melbourne, and the results illustrated in his new book are very exciting. They clearly shows how the Council’s consistent program over two decades for improving the quality of space and life in the city has worked. Melbourne is now in the league of European Sophistication, yet done in a laid back Australian manner, which means even Sydney, as well as out-of-capital-city places should be able to do it, and create the public life that we all dream of. Don't forget the clear economic data that Jan shows demonstrates how improvements in public life and place also resulted in economic turn around, as businesses want to be where the people want to be.
