Dr Mark Diesendorf of the University of New South Wales cites a Canadian study into sustainable energy and transport, undertaken for the David Suzuki Foundation, which found that small improvements to existing technologies could make 50% reductions in CO2 emissions within a few decades, giving us breathing space to develop new technologies. He also comments on Australia's dependence on coal fired power generation, even though clean and renewable alternatives are available.
