The Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) will take on a baseline environmental study of Scott Reef, off Western Australia's Kimberley coast about 430 kilometers north of Broome. Woodside Energy on behalf of the Browse Joint Venture finances the project.
The study, which will charge at least $25 million over four years, will offer a complete understanding of biodiversity, oceanography and ecosystems on and around Scott Reef.
The contract will be publicized today (Thursday 10 April) by the Federal Minister for Industry, Innovation, Science and Research, Senator Kim Carr.
AIMS CEO Dr Ian Poiner said that this project gave us a excellent opportunity to greatly progress scientific understanding of Scott Reef, a remote atoll system in the Timor Sea region, on the edge of Australia's continental shelf and also within WA's state jurisdiction.
