Clean Up Australia Day is a national day that aims to to inspire and work with communities to clean up, fix up and conserve our environment.
Since 1989 an 'average Australian bloke', had a simple idea to make a difference in his own backyard - Clean Up Sydney Harbour.
This event received an enormous public response with more than 40,000 Sydneysiders donating their time and energy to clean up the harbour.
Clean Up Australia Day is now the nation's largest community-based environmental event. This annual event now attracts hundreds of thousands of volunteers from the community, schools and eco businesses to help clean up, fix up and conserve their environment.
"Simple, easy actions can protect the health of our water resources and help save drinking water supplies. There is not one individual who cannot help to make a difference to the health of the environment" - says the founder Ian Kiernan.
Ian Kiernan's Clean Up Australia Day is an apolitical, non-profit community campaign in which everyone can participate.
