For residential uses, people generally go for the Thermosyphon or the Split System. The Thermosyphon / Close Couple System is where the where the storage tank is located on the roof, with the flat plate solar collectors attached below the tank. The split system is where the flat plate solar collectors are located on the roof and the storage tank is located on the ground.
The Evacuated Tube system is one of the newest technology in Australia. This consists of a bank of tubes on the roof and a storage tank on the ground. In general, this is the most efficient form of solar hot water, surpassing other solar hot water systems by up to 40% annually.
