A Solar Power System does not only benefit you in terms of emissions, you can also profit financially. By installing solar power on your home, it is no question that you are helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. 

This hence entitles you to create environmental credits - and these are called Small-scale Technology Certificates or STCs. These credits are a commodity and are tradable on the Australian Stock Exchange.  Similar to other commodities, the price of STCs is not fixed and varies with supply and demand.  

One STC will equal to one MWh of generation from a renewable source and is part of the Mandatory Renewable Energy Target created by government in 2001.
